1Professional Overview


The undergraduate program in Intellectual Property will be established in 2023 and is a second level interdisciplinary doctoral program covering the field of Intellectual Property. The intellectual property major focuses on cultivating high-level, cross disciplinary specialized talents who possess solid knowledge of intellectual property and composite knowledge of mechanical, electrical, computer and other engineering fields, can meet the key abilities and quality requirements of intellectual property related job positions, and can engage in related professions in judicial organs, intellectual property management institutions, intellectual property service institutions, enterprises, research institutes and other fields.


2Characteristics of Undergraduate Education


The intellectual property major adopts a "dual mentor system" training mechanism both on and off campus, innovating the "five in one" model of learning, research, competition, training, and practice. It focuses on conducting systematic learning such as vocational qualification examination training, academic summer camps, and big data experimental training, to strengthen students' practical application abilities; Adopting small class teaching methods, striving to cultivate "high" quality, "strong" ability, and "refined" level; Establishing two-level scholarships and grants for schools and colleges to encourage students to pursue further education; Reflect the characteristics of "engineering+intellectual property" training, classify and differentiate training according to individual needs and abilities of students, and output composite and application-oriented advanced intellectual property talents.


The Intellectual Property major adopts an integrated talent training model of undergraduate and graduate programs, providing a customized scientific research training system that integrates research mentors, special funds, and research platforms for students in this major. Firstly, provide specialized research mentors for students with research interests, follow the mentors to join the research group, and achieve the cultivation of specialized research abilities. In addition, mentors provide special guidance for students to participate in various subject competitions, as well as apply for university research projects and innovation and entrepreneurship projects; Secondly, the TISC Big Data Platform Laboratory of the college provides massive intellectual property data support for students' scientific research work.


3Professional courses


Although the intellectual property major belongs to the undergraduate program of law, it has highly interdisciplinary and complex characteristics. In addition to mastering core courses in law and intellectual property, students must have a cross disciplinary knowledge reserve. It is recommended that students minor in a science and engineering minor during their school years to enhance their professional abilities in the field of patent agency and increase their employment prospects.


4Faculty strength


The intellectual property major has formed a high-level "dual teacher" teaching team that integrates multiple disciplines such as law, management, economics, and engineering, and combines full-time and part-time teaching. At present, there are more than 100 full-time and part-time teachers, including one member of the National Intellectual Property Professional Degree Graduate Education Steering Committee, one national intellectual property leading talent, one expert with outstanding contributions from young and middle-aged people in Jiangsu Province, two experts from the expert database of the China National Intellectual Property Administration, one hundred high-level talents from the Million Intellectual Property Talent Project, six national patent information practitioners, etc., laying the foundation for the college to carry out high-quality talent training.


5Graduation destination


The main destinations for graduates majoring in intellectual property are focused on the following aspects: firstly, pursuing further studies through graduate studies. Graduates majoring in intellectual property can continue their studies in domestic and foreign universities or research institutes. The second is the judicial organs or intellectual property management departments. After passing the national judicial examination, one can engage in intellectual property trial and prosecution work in judicial organs such as courts and procuratorates, or work in intellectual property management departments such as intellectual property offices, copyright offices, trademark offices, and customs. Thirdly, there are patent service agencies. Engaged in intellectual property agency, consulting and other related work in patent service agencies. The fourth is a law firm. Engaged in intellectual property litigation, consulting and other related work in a law firm. Five is the enterprise. Engaged in intellectual property management and service work in enterprises.


The school encourages students to pursue postgraduate studies, and the college has established a master's degree exchange and training mechanism with domestic universities. Priority is given to recommending outstanding students in this major to apply for a master's degree in intellectual property. Students are supported to study intellectual property as graduate students in related majors such as the School of Management, School of Law, School of Finance and Economics at Jiangsu University, and can also apply for graduate studies in intellectual property at well-known universities or research institutes. In addition, the college recommends outstanding undergraduate graduates to pursue a master's degree without taking the entrance examination.
