On April 24th, the event “Inheritance of China’s Dragon Boat Festival Non-material Cultural Heritage and Protection of Intellectual Property,” involving both Chinese and foreign students, was successfully held at Jiangsu University. The activity attracted enthusiastic participation from many international students.
During the event, teachers from the Language and Culture Center and the Intellectual Property School of Jiangsu University guided students in making interesting Dragon Boat Festival sachets and moxa wellness hammers. They provided a detailed introduction to the rich cultural connotations and diverse folk activities of the Dragon Boat Festival, including making zongzi (sticky rice dumplings), crafting sachets, and dragon boat racing. International students gathered together to exchange ideas and learn from each other. Surrounded by the fragrant scent of mugwort, they deepened their understanding of the creative transformation and innovative development of excellent traditional Chinese culture, as well as the profound cultural values and unique skills inherent in it.
As the first Chinese festival to be listed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, the Dragon Boat Festival represents not only a historical memory but also the need for innovation to integrate into modern life. The interaction between intellectual property protection and traditional culture provides the public with a unique experience of the Dragon Boat Festival and encourages young students to actively participate in the innovative development of intangible cultural heritage.
This event, part of Jiangsu University’s World Intellectual Property Day activities, was jointly organized by the Language and Culture Center and the Intellectual Property School of Jiangsu University. It aims to enhance international students’ recognition of China’s excellent traditional culture through the exploration of the “creative transformation and innovative development” of the traditional knowledge of the Dragon Boat Festival and to raise awareness among both Chinese and foreign students regarding the protection of intellectual property.
